"Prevention. Correction. Protection. Interfacet."
Training management and staff is an integral step in preventing discrimination and sexual harassment. Schools, now potentially liable for teacher-student and student-student harassment or discrimination, should also take this step, providing training to their teaching, administrative and custodial staff as well as to students.
From 'one-on-ones' where we train individuals who may pose a risk to the company because of their behavior, to classes ranging from several to several hundred, we tailor our corporate diversity training programs to the specific needs of your organization. To best serve our clients, we provide both off-site and on-site trainings. You can send your employees to our off-site programs, or we can come into your organization and train at your locations.
Some of our programs are:
Discrimination and Harassment Prevention: Managers and
Supervisors
Anti-discrimination and harassment laws and policies change frequently. Sexual harassment is only one of the many types of employment discrimination to avoid: supervisors and managers must understand not only the basic underlying employee rights and obligations but themselves must engage in proactive management to prevent and respond to inappropriate workplace behavior. This workplace harassment seminar provides your management team with an organization-specific set of skills on how to recognize, prevent and respond to inappropriate behavior at the workplace.
Discrimination and Harassment Prevention: General Workforce
Anti-discrimination and harassment laws provide that
employees are entitled to a workplace free of inappropriate conduct.
But as laws, policies and social mores change, employees must
navigate an increasingly confusing journey through workplace behavior.
This seminar explains the overarching legal framework in "plain
English" and how it applies to the workplace. Employees
learn the most up-to-date issues of concern and how and why to
avoid and respond to inappropriate behavior.
Basic Supervisory Skills: the ADA
The Americans with Disabilities Act and its state corollaries
prohibit workplace discrimination based on a person's disability,
and mandate “reasonable accommodation” by the employer.
Covered employers face numerous issues -- what is a disability,
what proof may an employer require, what constitutes an illegal
discriminatory act on that basis, who has the obligation to raise
the issue of accommodation, what is such an accommodation, when
must the employer grant an accommodation and for how long -- the
list goes on. This seminar provides a "plain English"
overview of the laws, how they apply in various contexts, and
most importantly, the practical obligations of employers.
It also provides a roadmap to ensure employers understand the
relationship between the ADA, the Family and Medical Leave Act,
internal leave policies and "going out on disability."
Workplace Violence Prevention
Nearly 2 million employees in the U.S. are physically assaulted
annually at work. Employers increasingly are being held responsible
for that violence, by courts and legislatures. New York State,
for example, enacted in 2006 its Workplace Violence Prevention
Act, requiring all municipal employers to take specific steps.
Not only should employers craft careful and up-to-date violence
prevention policies and procedures, but should also train management
and staff on critical skills to reduce and avoid such violence.
This workshop provides specific guidance to employers and employees
on how to recognize, assess, report and respond to violent behavior
and its early warning signs.
Cultural Competency Skills
Census 2000 confirmed that the workplace and the public have become
dramatically and visibly multicultural. Employees interact with
people from many different backgrounds. Values, norms, beliefs,
expectations and communication styles differ from culture to culture.
This seminar provides insights into a number of cultural attributes
which affect performance and teaches how to engage in effective,
meaningful cross-cultural communication. This seminar will
improve delivery of services and intra-office communications,
as well as enhance job performance and satisfaction.
Religion at the Workplace: A Delicate Balance
Requests for religious accommodation at the workplace are rising. Claims of discrimination based on religion are also rising. Managers and supervisors need to understand how to balance the various rights and obligations of employers and employees regarding religious practices, observances and beliefs. This workplace diversity seminar provides a clear overview of the legal framework; basic understanding of ways that the diverse religions we see in the United States may manifest at the workplace; and guidance on how and when to reasonably accommodate those expressions.
Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Prevention: Employees
Employers should provide training not only on sexual harassment,
but other forms of discriminatory and harassing behavior. This
program provides a "plain English" framework: not simply
the laws, but a pragmatic, engaging and down-to-earth discussion
of why employees should care, the issues they should be alert
to at the workplace, what may constitute discriminatory behavior
and why, and how to avoid being either a defendant or plaintiff
in a discrimination lawsuit.
